YogaSoul Retreats · Meteora, Greece 2027
Six nights in Meteora, Greece: hiking ancient trails between monasteries built on stone pillars, and sitting in the kind of silence people have climbed here to find for over a thousand years.
You’ve been putting yourself last long enough.
One sky · One week · Stillness you climb to
The Problem
You take the trip. You see the sights. You come home with a full camera roll, and the same exhaustion you left with.
Somewhere along the way you started wondering why you can’t just unplug. Why rest feels like one more thing you’re failing at.
It’s not you. Most retreats bolt yoga onto a vacation and call it transformation: a sun salutation between excursions, a meditation app by the pool.
Meteora was built on a different idea. Since the ninth century, monks and hermits have climbed these rocks because stillness isn’t something you book. It’s something you climb to.
The exhaustion you’ve learned to live with doesn’t take a trip on its own. Another year of no vacations, or vacations that don’t restore you, is another year of running on empty.
The Place
The earth reaches upward in silence here. Massive conglomerate sandstone pillars rise from the Thessalian plain, with centuries-old monasteries perched on their summits, a UNESCO World Heritage site whose name also translates as “middle-Heaven.” Monks and hermits have sought refuge in these cliffs since the ninth century, and the quiet they found is still here.
You’ll hike to hidden hermit caves like the contemplative sanctuaries of Badovas, where the silence is complete enough for real meditation. You’ll watch sunrise and sunset shift their hues across the rock towers: natural openings for gentle yoga, reflection, and gratitude.
If you know Utah, imagine Moab of Grand County, but green and forested, with monasteries crowning the dark monoliths.
Home base is the village of Kastraki, at the foot of the rocks. Remote enough for true peace, comfortable enough for restful nights. From there we explore, reaching the monasteries on foot, with a few hikes beyond Meteora to take in the vastness of the region.
The Experience
Before the heat, before the talk. We begin each day on the cushion with breath and stillness, the foundation everything else rests on.
Footpaths monks have walked for centuries, winding between sandstone towers, hermit caves, and the monasteries of Meteora. 3–9 miles a day at a conversational pace.
A few hikes beyond the rocks take in the vastness of Thessaly: forested ridgelines, village paths, and views most visitors never see.
The contemplative sanctuaries of Badovas, where the silence is complete enough for real meditation. We sit where hermits have sat for a thousand years.
Guided meditation, gentle yoga as the light turns gold on the towers, and a long-shared dinner creating family of the heart and soul. Leaning into the kind of conversation that only happens when no one is in a hurry.
Twelve guests, never more, so no one is anonymous. The connections formed walking these trails last well beyond the week: friendships created, bringing more meaning to life.
Daily Flow
Structured enough to nourish, free enough to restore.

Your Guides
The husband-and-wife team who will guide you every step of the way: on the cushion, on the trail, and at the table.

Rachel and Eric know what it’s like to need rest you can’t give yourself. They’ve both lived seasons where the calendar was full and the tank was empty, where even the time off didn’t touch the tiredness. That’s why they build retreats the way they do: not as vacations with yoga attached, but as a week deliberately shaped around walking, breathing, and silence.
Rachel has been a dedicated yoga and meditation practitioner for more than 28 years and is a Grandmaster with the World Yoga Federation. Eric, YogaSoul’s Co-Founder and Retreat Director, handles every logistic from the moment you land in Athens. They also lead YogaSoul’s Reconnect & Renew retreat in Koufonisia, and many others, and they keep every group small so no one is anonymous.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you book.
Fly into Athens. From there we handle the rest: a group ground transfer brings you to Kastraki, about four hours through the Greek countryside. We recommend arriving in Athens the day before the retreat begins. Detailed travel guidance comes with your confirmation.
If you can walk comfortably for three hours, you can do this retreat. Hikes run 3–9 miles a day at a conversational pace with stops as needed. Some trails include navigating stone steps and moderate climbs; we take them mindfully. This is hiking as practice, not a race.
All levels are welcome, including brand new students. Rachel is skilled at meeting each student exactly where they are.
Absolutely, and many people do. Solo travelers are warmly welcomed and quickly become part of the group. If you’d like a shared room to keep costs down, let us know and we’ll match you with a compatible roommate.
Comfortable hiking shoes or stable trail runners (broken in, please), yoga or other comfortable clothes, layers for cool mornings and evenings, sun protection, a journal, and a reusable water bottle. Note: the monasteries have a dress code; long pants or skirts and covered shoulders are required for entry (you can carry these in a pack and put them on and off). We’ll send a full packing list prior to your retreat.
Honest, deliciously simple, locally sourced Greek cooking served family-style: garden vegetables, local cheese and yogurt, fresh bread, mountain herbs. Vegetarian and vegan options at every meal, plus the ability to order non-vegetarian at dinners in local tavernas. Tell us about dietary needs before arrival and we’ll accommodate you.
A family-run guesthouse in Kastraki, directly beneath the rock towers. Simple, yet with a sense of magic: comfortable and quiet, with views of the pillars you’ll be walking among from the property. This is a village stay, not a resort, and that’s the point.
A $500 fee applies to transfer your reservation. You may transfer your spot to another person, or if the retreat is full, your room goes to the waitlist and a refund (minus $500) is issued once your spot fills. Cancellations within two months of the start date require you to fill your own spot. We strongly recommend travel insurance.

We meet you in Athens on May 18th. Your only job for six nights is to walk, breathe, and remember what rested feels like.
You stop finding reasons to wait when you understand what waiting actually costs.
The honest cost of waiting is another year of vacations that don’t restore you, another year of running on empty. This is the week that changes the pattern. Join a true retreat of restoration.
You come home and notice you’re not reaching for your phone at dinner. The morning quiet you found on the rocks comes back with you: ten minutes before the house wakes up, and it’s enough. Rest stops being something you keep meaning to get around to. It becomes something you know how to find.
